“They’re all around us: family members, those sitting with us in the church pews, others we meet in our daily lives. We see their brokenness, their struggles, and their pain. We know we have the truth they need, but how can we disciple them appropriately? How can we help them get past their past?”

How to Be a Barnabas is designed as a stand-alone leaders’ curriculum suitable for training ministry leaders, small group leaders, prayer partners, Bible study leaders and friends or family walking with a hurting person. Team building is the cure for getting overwhelmed in ministry. How to Be a Barnabas is recommended as a prerequisite for training leaders who will participate in the R&R (Renewing and Rebuilding) Discipleship Program, usually offered in a church setting.
The R&R (Rebuilding and Renewing) Discipleship Program is an 11-month class specifically designed to disciple hurting people who are incapable of participating effectively in the mainstream bible studies in your church. It would meet once a week for two hours. The leadership team would meet for prayer during the half hour before the R&R class and meet on another day of the week to keep the team informed and discuss issues that need working out and the upcoming lesson and small group questions and especially for prayer.
The hurting person is encouraged to identify lies and false beliefs formed as a result of their trauma, to work through the emotions and forgiveness issues, and to effectively move from victim to victor.
The goal of the program is to encourage people to grow spiritually towards maturity through knowing and choosing truth. The focus of the discipleship program is three-fold:
Clearing the way to God the Father
Teaching skills to access the Word of God
Teaching people how to be spiritually aggressive
